l fell in Love with the Chinese Crested breed around 1995 when a friend adopted a little girl called 'Dotty' from the Rescue Centre where we both volunteered.
Dotty was such a happy little dog who loved everyone and every animal she met, she was funny and had a great sense of humour.
The Chinese Crested comes in 2 coat types
1) the Hairless, this is the most popular type. They have
virtually NO hair on the body (though some hair is
usually present and is shaved off). They have longer
hair on the head, feet and tail which are referred to as
furnishings.
2) the Powder Puff is often thought as the poor relation of
the Hairless, however they are just as adorable and also
do very well in the showring alongside their hairless
relations. The powder puff is also very necessary to the
bloodlines of the hairless to prevent a total loss of hair.
Both the Powder Puff and Hairless varieties are NON-SHEDDING like the Poodle (and a few other breeds) so are good for people with allergies and those who don't like finding dog hair all over the house!
This is only a basic guide to the Chinese Crested breed and you can find lots more information about them from the breed groups and on the Web if you think this may be a breed suitable for you.
